The Basic Hill flying Paragliding
course.
This four-day course is conducted at Hadapsar. You spend about
three to three to four hours each day learning the various
skills of Paragliding. At the end of the course you will be
flying independently. (under the supervision of an Instructor)
Course Duration : Four days
Venue : Hills around Hadapsar
Time of the day : Either morning 6:30 to 8:30 or Evening 4:30
to Sun set
Duration per day : Two to three hours
Fees : 10,500/- ( Foreigners Rs 11,500)
Requirements:
a) Age over 14 years up to the age of medical fitness.
b) Minimum qualification Std. Xth
c) Medically and Physically fit. See FAQ's below for more
details.
You will be required to submit the following documents:
a) Two I-card size photographs
b) Rs.50/- blank stamp paper for Indemnity bond
c) Fees on the day of enrollment (Fees are non-refundable
if you abort the course in between)
Day-wise training syllabus
Day one
The first day is spend in orientation, ground handling and
the theory necessary to keep you safe and informed. The first
day's practical training is physically demanding. Please get
plenty of water. During ground training you are taught the
following exercise:
 
a) Various parts of the glider,
b) Inspecting the flying equipment
c) Laying out of the glider for launch
d) The lift-off of the glider
e) The take-off run
f) Controlling the inflated glider overhead
g) Application and learning effectiveness of controls
h) Collapsing of the glider
i) Stowing and folding the glider
Day two
On the second day you are introduced to flying. You make your
first flights. These flights are done from a small training
hill of height 200'ft situated approximately 10 km from Hadapsar
towards east of Pune.. Aeam of two Instructors, two asst.
Instructors will be engaged in training around two students
per batch. By the end of this session you would have learnt:

a) Paraglider launch preparation and inspections
b) Pre-flight checks
c) Take-offs & landing
d) Releasing the rope and free flight landing
e) Gentle turns
Day three
The third day you are taught all the necessary theory required
for hill flying. On this day the main emphasis is on learning
how to take-off from a hill and land. This is the first time
you carry your glider up the hill. The instructor will explain
all the important aspects of hill flying. If necessary, one
of the pilots will demonstrate a flight for you. You will
be prepared for your first hill flight. The instructors will
assist you to a safe launch. One of the Instructors will be
on the radio imparting constant instructions throughout your
flight till you land. Once you have successfully completed
a flight you will be thrilled and would like to go for more
number of flights.
This session will see you through:
a) Flight planning
b) First hill take-off
c) Gentle turns
d) Landing judgement
e) Smooth landings
Day four
On the fourth day you visit the same hill for further hill
flying training. Instructors will closely and continuously
keep a track on the progress of each student. More and more
complex flying tasks are introduced depending on each individual
students performance.
You are allowed to practice as many flights as you would like
to.
By the end of this session you would have learnt in a few
flights:
a) Self take-off launch
b) Aiming for spot landing
c) Improving glide distance
d) Sharper turns to remain in lifting air.
e) Flying closer to the ridge.
FAQ's (Freqently asked questions)
1. Who can learn Paragliding?
You should be at least 15 years old, physically fit and weigh
between 35 to 100Kgs. People over the age of 50 years or people
weighing more than 85 kg will will be charged Rs. 1000 extra
for the course.
2. What are the training timings?
The timing is dependent on weather. Early mornings are preferred
because the weather remains cool and consistent with safety.
The first day the ground training will start at 4 pm upto
sunset with a 45 mins of theory lecture. Flying training timings
are from 6:30 am to 9 am. On week-ends we go to the hills
either in the morning or evening. Time spent on the hills
depends on the weather conditions generally around 4 to 5
hours each session.
3. What about people with little time to spare?
There are weekend courses for busy people and college going
students. Just that it takes a few more days to complete the
course at no extra cost.
4. Is the training course carried out in one stretch of 4
days?
First two days are necessarily in one stretch, i.e one evening
and two early mornings. Rest of the days could be scheduled
according to your convenience may be on week-ends.
5. What else should I know?
During the time of enrollment you are required to submit two
I'card size photographs and one Rs.50/- stamp paper for the
Indemnity bond along with the course fees.
6. The fees are not refundable if you discontinue the course
at any stage.
7. After completion of the Beginner course you may continue
practice flying by paying a fees of Rs. 1000/- for every flight.
8. It is necessary that your physical condition should be
good and you should have good stamina to climb hills. If you
are suffering from any medical problems please consult the
doctor before you join the course.
9. The duration of each flight could be anywhere between
5 mins to half an hour.
10. A special Ground Handling
Course is also available for those who want to sharpen
their ground handling technique. We strongly recommend that
you complete this course so that you have better skills to
take-off and land on your own without help.
